God places people in prisons for a season, to prepare them for greater service.
Some of these prisons are:
- Financial constraints
- Physical infirmities
- Family limitations
The common denominators in these prisons are:
- Limitation and restrictions
- Helplessness to change anything
- Divine mandate to do nothing to initiate change
When God does this to you, all you can do:
God asks for our obedience, to stay until He releases us. Prison is incredibly lonely. The Lord uses that season to cause us to find our companionship in Him. This gives great quantities of time to spend with the Lord.
In Joseph’s case God loved him so much that He bound him up in affliction and darkness in order to prepare him to be a vessel who would be able to lead an entire nation to avoid self- destruction. In order to be able to handle the promotion he would experience, Joseph’s heart had to be purified in the fiery crucible of an Egyptian dungeon.
