The Bible from the Hebrides Revival

At the beginning of the 20th century there was a very powerful revival that swept the Hebrides Island off the coast of Scotland. It was still greatly affecting the area through the 1940s’ and into the early 1950’s.

The prayers of two elderly women, ages 82 and 84, played greatly in the awakening experienced on the tiny island of Lewis.  One was blind, the other so humpbacked that they no longer attended church.  However, people came to their home to join them in prayer.  Soon the fire spread and the church filled up and the people were praying for spiritual renewal.

During that time a young teen named Donald Smith got saved and because of his gifting the pastor used him to lead prayer meetings during this move of God.  Donald had a young cousin, Mary Ann Smith McCloud, who came to the United States as a young woman.  These two old women were her aunts.  They sent a Bible with her that had been used during the revival.

In 1936 she fell in love with Fred and married.  She had four children, Fred, named after his father born in 1937; Mary Ann, named after herself, Elizabeth; and in 1946 she birthed another son and named him Donald, after her young cousin whom God used so mightily.

She gave Donald the Bible from the Hebrides Revival.  He is now the 45th president of the United States and that Bible is in the Oval Office. (I wonder if that is the Bible he held up in front of the church, near the White House that had been set on fire.)
