The Midwest Regional CWM had a prayer meeting on April 24, 2020 via Zoom. (That is a miracle in and of itself.) The meeting was opened by reading form Jesus Calling the entry for April 22 which talked about our need to continually listen to God. Then each person who was given a ‘word’ shared with the group their thoughts, scripture support and a prayer. What an awesome time in the Lord! Each person has provided a summary of what they shared. I pray you will continue to ‘chew’ on what was shared.
3. Word: COURAGE – Lisa Dorsey
Joshua 1:9. Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
Isaiah 41:10. Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, yes I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.
Courage: Many people think courage means fearlessness. Actually courage doesn’t mean we aren’t afraid, it means we don’t let fear stop us. It is a decision to move forward despite our fear.
Two words that come from the word courage are encourage and discourage.
Encourage: God commands us to be courageous and not to fear. He encourages us and reassures us that we are able to do this because He is with us, for us, and nothing can stand against Him.
Discourage: The enemy tries to discourage us. He tries to get us to focus on ourselves, on our own weaknesses and failures, or on the circumstances....the difficulties and challenges, the fear, the pain....anything to get our eyes off God. He knows God cannot fail. He also knows that when we are obedient and looking to God for strength, direction, and guidance that we won’t fail or fall either. But if he can get our eyes off God, he can work to cause us to give up or give in.
Father, today we pray for those in our world who are struggling and afraid. For those who don’t know you, we pray they would come to know you and find their courage and strength in You, not in themselves, or in the things of this life. For those who do know you, we pray that they would be reminded of who You are; that You are our God, faithful, true. You are for us, not against us; You never leave or forsake us. Therefore, we can do all things through Christ, who gives us strength and nothing can stand against us or cause us to fall or fail.
We pray for our leaders; for those in government, in the church, and in the Centers for Women’s Ministries. Give them wisdom; give them courage as they make hard choices and Godly decisions. Give them strength to stand by those decisions despite opposition, mockery, or any other attack from the enemy.
Father, give each of us courageous hearts...hearts to do the right thing; hearts to keep going, to stand firm even when our strength is gone or we feel unsure or afraid. Give us the courage to keep reaching out to those around us in need. May we all experience Your love and comfort even more deeply and go forward with renewed courage. In Jesus name, amen.
