Reflective and Meditative Prayer

This meditative prayer plan comes from Lectio Divina, a Latin plan for reflective reading. Lectio Divina was practiced by deeply spiritual saints of centuries past. Thomas Merton says, “In meditation we should not look for a ‘method’ or a ‘system,’ but cultivate an ‘attitude,’ an ‘outlook:’ faith, openness, attention, reverence, expectation, supplication, trust, joy.” (Devotional Classics, by Richard Foster) Most people have to learn to meditate.
